Watercolor Class - First watercolor study ... be kind.
These are the first watercolor studies in monochromatic color scheme that I have ever done in watercolor. Not anything to write home about, but felt it was something to blog.

A Must See!
"Between The Folds" You can watch it on YouTube and type in (Between The Folds). It was on PBS. You can see some pieces of it on YouTube. It's about Origami and how it is applied to the arts, and then extends beyond to mathematicians, scientists and more. IT IS AMAZING!!! The work is mind blowing! It goes way beyond making birds out of paper.
Working on an abstract painting.
Not my thing, but I'm doing my best! I'll post pictures when it's done... but be kind-please!

Another run to the art store, Michael's, Target, and so on!!!
I have been so many times to the art store and other stores to get prepared for this semester. It is amazing how much money has been spent on supplies this semester. And I still have to buy all of my brushes for oil painting in a couple of weeks. But I am truly looking forward to the painting classes and hope to learn some really great skills that I have not been able to gain on my own.
A funny note, I was running through my list of supplies (quickly) and thought I had read the size of canvas I would have to start out with correctly... too funny!!! I ended up reading a line down from it and was buying my stretcher bars accordingly to the measurements I thought I saw. I ended up with the largest canvas in the class!!! I have to now try and do an abstract project on this rather large blank canvas. Oh and don't think "abstract pishhha- that's easy!" There are requirements, certain rules to the painting like... as many shapes as possible without too much overlapping, razor straight edges, as many colors that you can create from only two contrasting colors and white and absolutely NO visible brush strokes or color variation in any of the paint. We will have 4 class periods to accomplish this task. I'll let you know if I survive!

A New Semester has Begun!!
I have started my new semester and have one thing to say....! Buy as much of your art supplies (solvents, rags, buckets, flashlights, etc.) from a hardware store and not from an art store. One gallon of odorless mineral spirits from an art store cost over $30.00 at ACE Hardware $13.00 and that's including tax! This semester for two art classes it has already cost me $700.00 and that's not even all the supplies. We also have to provide a flash light because the lighting is so poor in the classrooms. WE have to create our own spot lights for casting shadow. Definitely shop around and look at places you wouldn't think of before just heading to the art store. It will save you a decent penny!

Finally Finished!
I finally finished the portrait I was working on!!! I will have pictures posted soon. I am very pleased to be done and just in time for the new semester to start. One of my professors was kind enough to send me the list of art supplies needed for this semester. The bill, I kid you not, came to $400.00!!! I still have one more class to buy supplies for - watercolor. OMG!!

Zedie Spotted at ASU!
He's located in the hallway alongside the Lattie Coor Computing Center... He slowly appeared before my eyes; I captured it on film, so you could see too!
Zedie's Gone Wild!
I was at the bus stop this morning, and it appears that Zedie has jumped his post and is now running amok! We have learned that Zedies cannot be contained; they must run free! Zedie was last seen heading down University Drive!

Creating New Cartoon Character - Zedie
I have been working on creating some new cartoon characters; the newest is called Zedie. It is a singular character that wears different costumes. I have another boy and girl alien character being created as well. They are all in black and white pen right now. I have to still color them and eventually vectorize them as well. I like to do both - traditional and then vector. They will be posted shortly.

The Process - A New Portrait continued ...
I had Eddy take some more pictures of me working on my latest portrait - I think it's great to have a history of the process to look back on and to be able to share with others. So I am sharing some now. The portrait is 3/4 the way done. I will hopefully have it finished at the beginning of next week or at least before the new semester starts.
Happy New Year to All!!!
I am more than happy to see 2009 on its way! I am hopeful for a better - much better 2010. I hope all is well with my family and friends and hope the best to all my fellow artist friends! Create, make art and enjoy life!
