Final touch-up on the Apples from Painting 1
Well it is the final days of the semester, and I have touched up the apples painting. I have one close up and one of all three. The background is much richer in color now- deeper black. What the camera doesn't capture is that the black has all these beautiful layers of colors: red, green, purple, raw umber, each layered one over the other.
This is a close-up of the red and yellow apples:
I think they have improved greatly!!!

Final for Painting 1 class - going well
I am close to the end of the semester!!! I am doing pretty good on the final painting for my Painting 1 class. I am working on my tromp l'oeil painting. It is close to finished. I have uploaded some close-up shots and one photo of my artwork next to the actual canvas. It's getting pretty close. I have to still work on enhancing the tape hanging from the wire, and I need to add a little more darks and highlights to the wire itself. But I am really pleased with the results so far.
This next photo is of a small part of the wood grain. I like how the little knot turned out.
This final photo is of my painting next to the actual canvas. Yes I am painting the back of a canvas. Take a look.

Long Lunch Break - Super Zedie to the rescue!!
I am waiting for my next class to start. I am across the street from campus, enjoying a "bad for you" lunch. I decided to draw up another Zedie. This one is my Super Zedie. He is regular guy Eddie by day and Super Zedie by night. He is the Super Hero of my life!
I took a picture on my laptop and posted it:

New Micro-teaching handout -page 1 of 2
I have now created my second set of micro-teaching handouts for Art Ed. class. This one had to be a functional reading, exploring meaning in a work of art. I chose to use a detective theme.

Trompe l'oeil - Final project for my painting 1 class
I am coming up on finals, and am on the last project for this semester. I have to paint a trompe l'oeil painting. Trompe L'oeil means to trick the eye. I am attempting to paint the backside of a canvas frame onto the front side of another. I have started the foundation work. I will need to paint on wood grain, staples, hook-eye and wire, and a piece of tape attached to the wire. I must try and make it look as real as possible. I am putting up photos of the first step: foundation. I have established the frame, the color and texture of the interior canvas color - specks and all. I now have to do all of the other steps listed above. We have 3 weeks to get it done. Once the wood grain is in place, I will attach hooks and wire, with tape attached to the real frame, and then paint it onto the faux one. I will try and get it as real as possible. I'm not sure how the wire part will work.
Obviously, mine is the one on the right, but it looks pretty good for not having any of the wood grain or staples done. I will post the finished product, even if it turns out terrible. We can all learn from mistakes.
The Final Picture of the Teddy Bear Watercolor Painting Posted earlier
This is a final picture of the completed painting I did a while back in my watercolor class. I posted some of the earlier stages in the painting. This was my midterm. It was also right at the time my grandmother died. I think the painting expresses my sorrow of her loss. We had to create texture in the painting. I created texture on the book and the bear, using a fork, x-acto knife, and salt.
This is a close up of the purple and white marble to the right of the bear. I like the close-up because it provides more detail. This was very difficult to paint.
My Other Zedie - Space Zedie
This is the other painting of my Zedie for the sticker show. He is a space Zedie.
This is a close up of his little Zedie
These characters make me very happy and always put a smile on my face. My good friend Eddy is the
inspiration for this character.

My Self Portrait - in Shadows
I took a picture of my shadow, while I was waiting for the blue Orbit bus. I liked the way it stretched out over the brick walkway. I am wearing my zip-up sweatshirt tied around my waste- it's hot, it's cold, it's windy, who knows. Me in AZ.
Critique is over -
I survived. I am posting my apples from the underpainting again, to about 3 layers of glaze, 5 layers to the final 7th layer, I was able to put on before the critic day. I know that it still needs more, but I was pleased for the allotted time.

Tomorrow is the day! Picking on my Apple Day.
Apples viewing. We are having our class critique of our apples, a practice in glazing. I was able to squeeze in seven layers in glazing in the time allotted for this project ( 6 hours, at least, drying time between layers) . I was the happiest, when the last layer I was able to apply (on Tuesday) - the background actually looked black. I layered reds over greens to achieve the "black" of the background- we weren't allowed to put black paint down. The emphasis was to be the apples, and I focused intensely on the three apples, but it was seeing the "black" finally shining through - what great pleasure that little moment brought me. I will be posting the different documented layers soon - maybe tomorrow. As for the critique, it might be another margarita night, to ease the salted wounds! I'll keep you posted.
ASU Lux Creative Review - see the work
Check out the link to the Lux Undergraduate Creative Review. My work and other fellow ASU artists' work was published in this student driven magazine. I was very happy to have two of my pieces included. There was over a thousand entries. The website is very cool- it provides the accepted works. The magazine is beautiful and very well designed- the printed version also has CDs of the music and films that were accepted into the Review. I was honored to be a selected artist contributor to LUX.
